Historic Movie “Amina” is Coming to Netflix!

Historic Nigerian movie “Amina” has been acquired by the global streamer Netflix, and will premiere on the 4th of November 2021 on the platform. 

The film follows the story of the 16th-century Zazzau empire warrior Queen Amina. It is directed by Izu Ojukwu, director of the exciting film “76,” and produced by Okechukwu Ogunjiofor. 

The feature film stars the likes of Lucy Ameh, Clarion Chukwura, Ali Nuhu, Magaji Mijinyawa and lots more. It was shot in Nigeria with post-production in Europe.

According to director Izu,

“the story of the legendary Queen Amina of Zazzau whose daring courage and conviction set loose a series of upheavals that altered the fate of her people in ways that none could have thought possible was delightful and illuminating to film. It remains a peculiarly transformative experience for both our formidable cast and crew, a pleasurable experience you can share in when the film premieres on Netflix on the 4th of November.”

The legendary Queen Amina has enjoyed a lasting reputation as a female leader and warrior. She has been honoured, immortalized and currently sits at the centre of modern cultural depictions. During her reign, Amina successfully led wars and took over lands such that the men of Katsina and Kano paid homage to her. 

Known as the warrior queen, she expanded the territory of the Hausa people to the largest borders in history. Asides from expanding the Zazzau territory, she created trade routes across Northern Africa.
