Lawrence Okolie Knocks Out Krzysztof Glowacki to Win WBO World Title
Lawrence Okolie, a Nigerian-British boxer has knocked out Krzysztof Glowacki, one of the top five cruiserweights in the world in the sixth round to become WBO world cruiserweight champion. The boxer delivered a punch-perfect display before initiating a sixth-round knockout to earn his first world title. Following his dramatic fight against Poland’s Krzysztof Glowacki, which held on Saturday night, 20th March at the SSE Arena in Wembley, Lawrence Okolie is now Britain’s fifth men’s world champion.
Spurring a range-finding jab, Okolie followed up with a right hand to push Glowacki back onto his heels in the opening round. In the second round, Okolie stabbed out jabs and stinging body shots. He constantly targeted Glowacki’s ribs in the third round, increasing his attack in the fourth as a right hand shook his 34-year old opponent. Shuddering jabs met Glowacki whenever he strayed into the range in the fifth round.
In the sixth round, Okolie, who stepped into the ring with 15 fights unleashed a brutal finishing punch with a huge right hand to drop Glowacki heavily on his back. The referee, Marcus McDonnell finally waved off the fight to confirm the triumph and reign of Britain’s newest world title holder.
Okolie, 28 and unbeaten takes after the likes of Tony Bellew, David Haye and Jonny Nelson, who previously held world crowns in the 200lb class. Sky sports previously reported that Okolie “can equal Anthony Joshua’s swift rise to world champion in only 16 fights.” With his 16th fight concluded, the WBO cruiserweight champion now has a perfect professional record of 16 wins from 16 fights, with 13 by knockout and three by decision. In addition to his British, Commonwealth and European honours previously collected, Okolie can now add world-champion status. A truly undisputed champion!

Nicknamed The Sauce, the fighter who initially used boxing to build self-esteem and shed weight is undoubtedly gaining grounds in the international boxing space. Known for his long reach and punching power, Okolie has held several titles. At the regional level, he held the Commonwealth cruiserweight title from 2018 to 2019, as well as the British and European cruiserweight titles at different times in 2019. As of October 2020, Okolie ranks as the world’s seventh-best active cruiserweight by The Ring Magazine and ninth by BoxRec.
