Following the announcement of the e-naira which is scheduled to launch on the first of October 2021, the CBN has launched a website to commemorate the e-naira – www.enaira.com The e-naira is a central bank digital currency that is issued as a legal tender.

The website which started running on Monday the 27th of September 2021 is still in the development stage as some features are yet to be active. When the digital currency launches on the 1st of October, Nigerians will be able to download the app on play store for android users and on the app store for IOS users.

Nigerians will also be able to fund their wallets using their bank accounts or with cash at a registered agent’s location. The website has recorded over a million views since it launched. The website explains the benefits that come with digital currency as it promises to ensure easier financial transactions for the users of digital currency. It also promises the opportunity for peer-to-peer payments which allow users to send one another through a linked bank account or card.

According to the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, the e-naira would bring increased cross-border trade, accelerate financial inclusion and lead to cheaper and faster remittance inflow. In his words, “The digital money will lead to easier and targeted social interventions as well as improvement in monetary policies, tax collection and payment systems efficiency.

The e-naira offers better payment prospects in retail transactions as well as a remarkable structure. The e-naira serves as both a medium of exchange and a store of value. The e-naira website features all you need to know about the central bank of Nigeria’s digital currency.
