Interview with the CEO Lexyshoeng
Why did you decide to be an entrepreneur?
I decided to be an entrepreneur because it has been a life I have admired since I was younger. Both parents being traders, I grew up watching them do the hustle in buying and selling. I helped my mother sell in her little jewelry shop on the Island. It was an eye opening experience. Since then, I developed the passion for entrepreneurship looking to take my parents’ “legacy” to the next level.
What inspired “Lexyshoesng” and when did you start the initiative?
Shoemaking for me was curiosity turned passion, then it became an aspiration. It was a new developing industry in the country with promising future. About 80% of our foot wears are being imported into the country, so I thought to myself, If we can compete with the foreign products with our own locally made here, then the citizens will be convinced to patronise us. I saw the potential of us doing better if we had access to the required tools/materials. Plus this will improve our economy (Being a patriotic Nigerian). A means to creating more jobs. I started learning shoemaking during my service year in 2017. I started the business officially in year 2018 after my service.
What motivates you and what are the principles that guide your business?
What motivates me most is the fact that Nigeria is capable of so much than we give ourselves credit for. The fact that my fellow Nigerians gives more attention to imported products just cause it’s imported is quite unsettling. It’s my goal to change this mindset with the little I can do starting with the shoe industry. Our principle is simple; Consistent change. We don’t dwell on a single process. We change with time, climate, taste and life. We are open to new ways of improving our skills and business in general. This is the basic principle to stay in competition and be better.
In your industry, what makes you unique?
We are unique based on our principle. We give our customers new taste consistently. We invest more in creating unique designs and serve our customers in a unique way because they are unique people.

What has been your greatest entrepreneurial success?
I won’t say I have had a great success because we are not quite near our goals yet, but the fact that we are consistently getting close on a daily basis is a success on its own.
What is your favourite part of being an entrepreneur?
Every single part of it….I love every challenge, the wins, the process, the growth and the impact it is having on the society. Being an entrepreneur is one of the best decisions I’ve made.
What is the most challenging aspect to being an entrepreneur?
The most challenging aspect to thriving as an entrepreneur for me, has to be operating in a struggling economy. Our products are solely and strictly crafted with quality materials coupled with production costs which are not leveling out next to the profits made.
