Faith Odunsi Wins the Global Open Mathematics Competition, Defeats UK, US, Chinese and other Students
Faith Odunsi, a 15-year-old secondary school student of The Ambassadors Schools, Otta, Ogun State recently set a new global record as she wins the Global Open Mathematics Tournament, an international Mathematics competition with participants from Africa, Europe, America, Australia and Asia. Faith Odunsi excelled over students from the United States, United Kingdom, China and other countries to win the top prize. She had earlier set a record in 2019 by answering 19 questions in 60 seconds in the Cowbellpedia competition.
Faith Odunsi is a Senior Secondary three (SS3) student from Ijebu, Ogun State. While speaking on her experience as the winner of the global Mathematics competition, Faith disclosed that emerging winner of the competition has made her happy and honoured. She further provided details on how she excelled in different stages of the competition. Faith said,
“In the first stage, there was a computer-based test and we had to answer many questions in one hour. My score on the test was 66. The second stage took the same format and I also scored 66. The quarter and semi-finals were on Microsoft themes. We were asked questions and we put in our answers; the first to put in the correct answers got 10 points.”

Speaking on how she prepared for the competition, Faith disclosed that she was sure to not let the tournament affect her studies. After school period, Faith would have classes with her teacher who coached her for the contest. She also said that she studied at night from 11 pm to 12 am, with support from her parents.
On winning the contest, Faith was awarded a cash prize of $1,000 (₦379,000).
Prior to the Global Mathematics Competition, Faith had set a record in 2019 in the Cowbellpedia competition by answering 19 questions in 60 seconds. Then, she received a Record Holder Award, for the highest number of questions answered on Cowbellpedia in the Junior Secondary School category. Faith has also participated in other competitions including the National Olympiad since JSS2. She took part in Kangourou Sans Frontieres, South African Mathematics Olympiad, American Mathematics competition and Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad. For the National Olympiad, she was made the Queen of Mathematics from JSS3 to SS2, and for the South African Mathematics Olympiad, she got medals. She also got a silver medal in the Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad in 2019.
Faith Odunsi is an ambassador of her school. She wants to study Computer Engineering for her University education.
