Funke Amobi

Funke Amobi is the Regional Head of People and Culture at Standard Bank Group, West Africa where she shapes the people and culture strategy of the Bank across six countries. She also oversees the delivery of the people agenda for Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc as Country Head People & Culture.

Before Standard Bank, she was the General Manager – Organisational & Talent Development Team of MTN Nigeria Communications Limited (2008-2013); Senior Manager – Learning and Development for MTN Nigeria Communications Limited (2006-2008); and Group Head Human Capital Management of Unity Bank PLC (2004-2006).

Funke holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Lagos Nigeria and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Lancaster United Kingdom. She has a Postgraduate Certificate in Organizational Development and the Psychology of Change from the University of Bedfordshire as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Talent and Career Management from the University of Surrey, UK.

With over 25 years of experience across the Oil & Gas, Banking and Telecommunications sectors, Funke Amobi has gained global recognition in the HR space. She is recognized among the 100 most influential HR persons globally by Times Ascent India and was recently appointed an Honorary Professorial Fellow in the Lancaster University Management School UK. 

A multiple award recipient, Funke Amobi was named the All Africa Employee Engagement Professional of the Year by N2Growth Africa, Johannesburg, South Africa in 2019; Nigeria’s 50 Top Corporate Women by Leading Ladies Africa in 2019; and African Thought Leader in HR by iPerformance Africa in 2020. She was a global finalist of the Professional Achievement Award in the UK Alumni Education Awards and was also awarded the HR Leader award in Nigeria by the HR People Magazine.

Funke is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria, Nigeria Institute of Training and Development and a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development UK. She is also a member of the Dean’s Council/Advisory Board of Lancaster University Management School UK (LUMS), Pan Atlantic University (LBS) Nigeria and a Non-Executive Director of Stanbic IBTC Asset Management Limited. Funke sits on the boards of several not-for-profit organizations including WISCAR (Women in Successful Careers).

An international speaker on Human Resources and management issues, Funke is deeply passionate about women empowerment, youth employability and helping career professionals thrive. Funke’s recently published book “Marital Harmony” is empowering couples and intending couples across countries.
