Happy Independence Day: Growth Starts With Us
At 62, there is a lot to be thankful for and one is that we are happy people with a positive disposition towards life. Our positive outlook and determination to make Nigeria peaceful and prosperous have made us a united and indivisible nation. As we fly the Nigerian flag proudly today on our 62nd Independence Anniversary, let us reflect on our journey together and how far we’ve come individually, and as a nation.
Daily, we see and applaud the achievements of Nigerians excelling globally in various industries such as sports, music, film, business, education, and art amongst others. Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, Folashade Oluwafemiayo, Asisat Oshoala, Kelechi Iheanacho, and others have made us proud in the sports industry with their numerous awards and medals won. Our global music stars – Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Tems, Yemi Alade, Ayra Starr, Tiwa Savage, and others keep putting Nigeria on a global map. The works of Kemi Adetiba, Biodun Stephen, Mo Abudu, Niyi Akinmolayan, and Kunle Afolayan speak volumes about Nigerian talent, hard work, and creativity internationally.

Although we haven’t achieved all the marks we set collectively as a nation, we know that they are not impossible to achieve. If we look inwardly at our achievements over time, we can grow stronger, and more determined with unity of purpose.
We all wish for a better Nigeria, and oftentimes; we look outside of ourselves while dreaming of a better country. Mostly, we forget that a better Nigeria starts with us as individuals. It starts with how we (the citizens) treat each other, respond to national issues, and contribute to national development. It starts with us.
