In responding to the competition, Tolu Oyekan, Partner at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Lagos said that the organization was focused on building deliberate engagement amongst secondary school students on gender parity and its surrounding issues. Tolu further said,

“We expect that this will motivate the students to be more deliberate in their interactions and reactions to gender stereotypes, as we  strive for a more gender-equal society.”

Participation in the contest involved a call for essay writing from students in Lagos, between the ages of 10 and 18. The students were required to write an essay of no more than 1000 words in response to an IWD-themed prompt.
