Vinsighte

Vinsighte is a digital health startup leveraging technology to help the blind and visually impaired persons in Africa to live a better and happy life. Vinsighte ensures that visually impaired persons are not left out in society. One of the startup’s goal is to restore confidence in individuals living with visual impairment as well as give them joy, comfort and satisfaction while carrying out activities they wouldn’t have been able to do as a result of their condition.

Vinsighte

Vinsighte intends to give the blind and visually impaired computer vision to help them walk confidently in the community without human aids, and read course-related books or other forms of publications that interest them, confidently and without stress.

Vinsighte was founded on the 17th of September, 2018 by Kolawole Tomi and Caleb Oyolola, both from the University of Ibadan. Other founding team members include Erioluwa Morenikeji, Dairo Tosin, Emmanuel-Okolugbo Chukwuka and Toyin Ayanleye. The team developed Vinsighte out of the passion to solve Africa’s visual challenge. Through the social entrepreneurship venture, the team devised a means to help the visually impaired navigate their environment independently, and read books conveniently through a tech-based guiding aid.

The social entrepreneurship venture is bringing the prevalence of vision challenges experienced through visual impairment to the barest minimum.

Through innovative technology, Vinsighte offers three products which are:

* Viri – Ultrasonic Guiding Aid

* Visis – Smart Reading Glasses, and

* Dr. Vee – Mobile App

The Viri Guiding Aid assists the visually impaired in navigating their environment by sensing obstacles ahead, while also alerting the user. The device alerts the user of a possible obstacle by vibrating gently. Also, the Visis Smart Reading Glasses enable the visually impaired to read books conveniently by converting texts to audio input for them to listen to. On the other hand, Dr Vee Mobile Application is a smart app that diagnoses eye diseases, recommends first aid treatment and refers a patient to the doctor for early treatment.

The startup’s vision for 2021 is to be the foremost digital venture for the visually impaired and for the prevention of visual impairment in Africa.

In the next 10 years, Vinsighte plans to reach up to 10,000 people. The health-tech venture will achieve this by providing more access to diagnostic tools, ultrasonic guiding aids, smart glasses and other services to the visually impaired.

In order to attain their goals and drive more impact with technology, the Vinsighte team has visited Omoyeni school for the blind in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria; where they reached out to about 45 visually impaired students.
