10-Year– Old Chinonso Eche Emerges as the Youngest Nigerian Guinness World Record Holder

Ten-year-old Chinonso Eche from Warri in Delta State recently emerged as the youngest Nigerian to win a Guinness world record for most consecutive football touches in one minute while balancing another football on his head. It is true that Nigeria is a country of many talents and a recent confirmation to this is Chinonso Eche’s breakthrough into the global stage from being a local football freestyle prodigy.

According to BBC Africa, Chinonso revealed he started freestyling since he was eight years old after his father showed him clips from retired Nigerian skipper, Jay Jay Okocha, Brazilian Gaucho Ronaldinho and Barcelona footballer, Lionel Messi.

“My dad showed me videos of Messi, Ronaldinho and Okocha and I started practicing,” Chinonso Eche said.

Also in an interview with the BBC in January, Chinonso mentioned that he loves to freestyle with football because he believes he has the gift and does it to entertain his friends in school, adding that he prides himself as the best football freestyler in Warri.

The 10-year-old freestyler is a product of hard work, and his consistency is paying off as he has now made his way into the coveted Guinness World Record book. 

According to Guinness, Chinonso has the most consecutive football (soccer) touches, achieving that incredible feat within a minute. 

Impressed by this feat, FIFA, the world football regulating body also acknowledged and recognized the incredible skill of Chinonso.

“How many kick-ups could you do when you were 10? We bet some of you were pretty good!” the football regulating board said. “Guessing you weren’t doing them while balancing another ball on your head like Amazing kid Eche, though What a talent! And a @GWR record-holder, too!”

Chinonso, who uses his skills to entertain his friends in schools, told BBC Sport Africa of his dream to play for big football clubs and the Super Eagles of Nigeria when he grows up. His ambition is to play for big clubs such as Barcelona, Chelsea, and Real Madrid.

Fortunately, 10-Year- Old Chinonso Eche emerges as the Youngest Nigerian Guinness World Record Holder. Prior to this great feat, Chionoso Eche said he wakes up every day at 4:30 am to practice his football skills before preparing to go to school.
