CyberSafe Foundation Supports 1500 SMEs
CyberSafe Foundation, a non-governmental organization whose mission is to reduce digital threats to the barest minimum is set to empower SMEs and other digitally vulnerable groups through its initiative: ‘Safe Digital Community During Covid-19’. The Foundation recently unveiled plans to support 1500 SMEs and digitally vulnerable groups with the essential skills to identify, detect, protect, defend, and respond to cyber threats, enabling a safe digital community in Nigeria.
Founded in 2019 by Confidence Staveley, CyberSafe Foundation is an Information Technology (IT) Organization on a mission to initiate pockets of change that will ensure safer internet utilization for everyone with digital access in Nigeria. The organization aims to combat digital fraud by delivering simple but relatable Cybersecurity education in Nigeria and the world. Being a global challenge faced by SMEs in multiple sectors of the economy, the initiative has attracted supports from organizations like KnowBe4 Africa, Cyber Security Experts Association of Nigeria (CSEAN), and others, to aid the success of the program.

The ‘Safe Digital Community During Covid-19’project is sponsored through the UK’s Prosperity Fund Digital Access Program and is part of the country’s cyber risk alleviation support to the COVID-19 response of Nigeria. The grant agreement was signed between the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and the Cybersafe Foundation on September 7, 2020, in order to facilitate a safer internet for everyone with digital access in Nigeria.
Through the ‘Safe Digital Community During Covid-19’ initiative, CyberSafe and the UK Government will focus on facilitating and maintaining secured digital access to Nigerians. Beneficiaries will be trained on the required knowledge and skills to stay above every form of threats posed by criminals.
Speaking on the project, Confidence Stavely, the Executive Director of Cybersafe said:
“I am very excited about this project that is arguably one of Nigeria’s biggest Cyber Security education interventions yet, designed to support the businesses and individuals most digitally vulnerable to cyber-attacks within our community. This project will support at least 1500 SMEs with free cybersecurity training and also educate over 10million Nigerians on Safe Cyber hygiene best practices in a novel and impactful way.” She says.
According to Confidence Staveley, The Safe Digital Community’s beneficiary SMEs and groups will be extended to all parts of Nigeria, including the business sector, deprived communities in the north, and Health organizations. The training will be done virtually and materials will be provided through the organization’s online learning management system. The organizers are confident that the project will help raise the awareness of Nigerians regarding cybersecurity and best practices on cyber hygiene.
In tackling cyber threats, CyberSafe claimed to have saved Nigerians about $100,000 in losses. The Founder, Confidence Staveley was listed among the top 50 women in Cybersecurity, in Africa, 2020.
