Following a rigorous selection process and three months of training, Aisha Dirisu, founder of Peniel Foundation, has emerged the winner of this year’s Donors for Africa’s Social Innovators Pitch.

Donors for Africa connects impact driven individuals and social innovators to donors and funding opportunities. At its core, Donors for Africa is passionate about helping organizations find long term solutions to ensure equal opportunity for individuals on the African continent. The organization does this via Strategy Planning, Capacity Building, Leadership Accelerator, Philanthropic Portfolio Building, Donor Engagement and Impact Investing amongst others value adding activities.

Aisha Dirisu is a Disability Inclusion advocate. She is a trained development economist from the University of East Anglia, Norwich, United Kingdom. She got the vision for her organization when she volunteered to care for autistic children in the UK. This experience gave her insight into the plight of those living with disabilities. She eventually channeled this experience into becoming a strong advocate for people in this demography.

Peniel Foundation is an organization whose vision is to inspire, empower, and advocate for people living with disabilities so they can actively contribute to nation-building. The foundation’s primary focus is to connect youths living with disabilities to job opportunities, equipping them with the tools required to succeed and become financially independent.

Recently, Peniel Foundation recently launched an e-mentorship program that connects youths with disabilities in Africa to successful mentors around the world. Through this initiative, mentees have gotten internship opportunities and full employment opportunities. The organization currently has over 50 mentees and about 55 mentors in its mentoring database.

Peniel Foundation also partnered with British High Commission and CBM to increase the representation of persons with disabilities as beneficiaries of the Chevening Scholarship.
