Apply for Utiva’s Digital Skills Wunming Scholarship for Differently-Abled Persons

Applications for Utiva’s digital skills Wunming scholarship for 500 differently-abled persons is now open. The Wunming Scholarship is a project by Utiva, a Nigerian edtech organization to empower young Nigerians who are differently-abled.

Utiva is a Nigerian edtech platform launched in 2017, by Eyitayo Ogunmola based on his passion to see young Africans gain access to world class skills at an affordable rate.

Utiva operates a decentralized virtual tech platform that provides access to premium digital skills training. The company uses a blend of on-site, virtual, instructor-led and AI-powered learning approaches to accelerate the process of premium digital skills training. Utiva also has an encrypted product called “The Nucleus” which was developed to help learners’ access more than 40 pre-installed classes with less dependence on the internet. Utiva has trained more than 5000 young people as of 2020.

The Wunming scholarship was inspired by the story of one of its employees Omowunmi Samson who is differently-abled due to an impairment caused by a spinal cord compression – a condition she has lived with for 14 years. Wunmi currently leads Utiva’s communications and team strategy, coordinating an ecosystem of over 5000 talents.

The goal of the Wunming project is to help people with disabilities gain skills that would help them become valuable and aid workplace inclusion. Its target is to train 500 differently-abled people with top digital skills that employers are hiring for. Some of the skills on offer in the Wunming training include:

* Product Design

* Artificial Intelligence

* Product Management

* Digital Marketing

Speaking on the project, Utiva CEO, Eyitayo Ogunmola said, “When we hired Wunmi, we certainly had doubts.’ But what we have realized over time is that her mind is super active, and she beats our imagination with the quality of the work she does. Technology education is the best form of education you can give to a man, it connects the human mind to the digital economy.”

At the end of the training, participants will be incubated into Utiva’s virtual internship programs for three months to avail them the opportunity to practice all they have learnt from their classes which will give them the opportunity to see the real world application of their new knowledge.
