Chidimma Adetshina Makes History as First Runner-Up at Miss Universe 2024  

In a monumental achievement for Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina emerged as the first runner-up at the 73rd Miss Universe competition, held at the prestigious Arena CDMX in Mexico City. Her stellar performance also earned her the coveted title of Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, marking a historic moment as the first Nigerian to reach the top two in Miss Universe history.  

The competition, featuring 126 contestants from around the globe, was a dazzling display of beauty, talent, and cultural diversity. Chidimma Adetshina’s journey captivated audiences worldwide as she gracefully advanced from the top 30 to the top five and finally to the top two. She shared the stage with the eventual winner, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark, who now takes over the crown from Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua.

Chidimma Adetshina’s success makes her the highest-placed Black African woman in Miss Universe since South Africa’s Zozibini Tunzi won in 2019. Her achievement is a testament to African women’s growing influence and excellence on the global stage.  This year’s competition also saw a strong showing from African nations, with 18 contestants, including representatives from Angola and Egypt.  

Beyond the pageantry, Adetshina, a law student, has expressed her commitment to using her platform to advocate for social causes.
