Diji Aderogba’s “About a Boy” Wins the 8th Prix Du Public at the NollywoodWeek Film Festival

“About a Boy” by first-time director Diji Aderogba has received the highest honour at the 2021 NollywoodWeek Film Festival. The movie was named winner of the audience appreciation award, known as the Prix Du Public at the 8th edition of the Film Festival which held recently in Paris, France.

International Nollywood favourites such as The Wedding Party, King of Boys and Isoken are previous winners of the NollywoodWeek Prix Du Public.

“About a Boy” follows the psychological games played between a writer and his muse. The movie stars lead character, Chimezie Imo with Funmilayo Mustapha, Bolaji Ogunmola, and Olumide Oworo in supporting roles. The film is produced by Adio Solanke and Funmilayo Mustapha.

For the first time in its 8-year history, the festival streamed all the films selected exclusively online. According to AfricaNews,

“The announcement of the winning film marked the culmination of the 2021 edition of the Festival, where 15 feature-length and 18 short films from Africa and the African diaspora were showcased to a global audience.” 

As Diji Aderogba’s “About a Boy” received the highest honour at the film festival, the first-time filmmaker will receive a range of top-of-the-lines lenses from the Angenieux brand for production of a subsequent project.

Nollywood Week is an annual film festival organized by the French-based association Okada Media and Serge Noukoue and Nadira Shakur. The NollywoodWeek Festival aims to promote African cinema globally through celebrating Nigerian talent and ingenuity in film-making. The festival showcases the best Nigerian talents to a global audience, in order to find a more sustainable distribution system for their quality films.

This year’s Festival took place virtually between the 6th and 9th of May 2021. Feature films and short films were selected including “All na Vibes”, “For Maria Ebun Pataki”, The Herbert Macaulay Affair”, Lady Buckit and the Motlet Mopsters”, “Heaven Baby”, The Satchel” and others.

Additionally, the 4-day event offered audiences a question and answer session after each film; panel discussions on screenwriting, funding within the African animation sector and African content distribution.
