Nigerian-American karting champion, Ugo Ugochukwu has signed a long-term deal with McLaren, a British motor racing team to receive career support and development through racing’s junior categories. McLaren disclosed that the agreement provides an option to sign Ugochukwu to a race deal in the future. The team will focus on giving Ugochukwu the necessary support needed to help him scale the heights of his career.

Additionally, the deal gives McLaren a multi-year contract with Ugochukwu, which includes an option for a further multi-year racing deal in F1 or other categories. According to McLaren F1 Team Principal Andreas Seidl,

“Ugo is a promising young talent with strong development prospects.

“While he is still early in his career, it is clear he has the ingredients to be successful in the sport. This signing reflects our refocused approach to identifying and supporting new talent, away from a formal young driver programme to a more tailored basis.”

“I am honoured to be signed by such an iconic team as McLaren Racing so early in my career.

“To have the support of McLaren is fantastic and what any young driver dreams of. I’m focused right now on developing as a driver and racer, so having McLaren by my side can only help me on and off the track.”

McLaren, with a track record of picking rising stars, had famously signed Lewis Hamilton at age 13, the same age as Ugochukwu; after an impressive start to his racing career. Fast-forward to 2008, Lewis won his first F1 world title with the British racing team.
