Katampe Hill: The Geographical Center Of Nigeria

In 1991, Abuja was chosen to be the capital of Nigeria, and for the past 32 years, Abuja has grown to be one of the most beautiful states in Nigeria, and also stands as the only planned city in Nigeria.

Katampe hill is one of the top natural attractions in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. Apart from the fact that Katampe hill is marked as the center of Nigeria, the hill is a very good spot to have a clear view of Abuja city.

At the foot of the hill, there are commercial motorcyclists available to give you a ride up the hill, or you can decide to go by foot.

Once at the top of the hill, most tourists search for the spot that is marked as the center of Nigeria. It is a very exciting and patriotic moment as many tourists can be seen placing their right hand on their chests and reciting the National Pledge.

From that point on top of Katampe Hill, you can see Jabi lake; a natural body of water in the Jabi district of Abuja where you will find a recreational park beside the lake called the Jabi Park and also Jabi Lake Mall which houses Shoprite.

You can also see Aso Rock, close to the Nigerian President’s official residence, the Nigerian National Assembly and the Nigerian Supreme Court. In fact, on the hilltop, you have mountain top views of most of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Bwari Area Councils, two of the six Area Councils that make up the Federal Capital Territory.

Katampe hill is a very good spot to have a clear view of the Abuja city, apart from the fact that it is the centre of Nigeria. It is also a perfect location for picnics, hiking and breathtaking view tours.
