Temie Giwa – Tubosun, the founder of Life Bank recently announced that Life Bank in partnership with NIMR Nigeria has launched a mobile testing centre to help expand testing of COVID-19.

According to Temie Giwa Tubosun, the idea was conceived on the 27th of March 2020 and launched on the 31st of March 2020. So far, 70 people have been tested and the plan is to ramp up and be able to test 200 people daily. The Drive-thru mass testing centre is located at the parking lot of the Cancer Research Centre of NIMR.

The Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) in Yaba, Lagos State, Nigeria is a medical research institute established by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the research institute establishment act of 1977, to promote National health and developments. Until the establishment of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRID) in Abuja, it was the only institute in the country specifically dedicated to medical research.

The NIMR focuses on scientific areas of research in Biochemistry and Nutrition, Virology Vaccinology, Immunology, Health system and policy research, Reproductive, Maternal and Childhood diseases Research, Clinical Science, Microbiology, Molecular biology Biotechnology and Public Health, with studies that focus on diseases of greatest public health importance in the country. These include Malaria, HIV/AIDS Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, Schistosomiasis, Helicobacter Pylori, and Typhoid.
