Lupita Nyong’o Becomes First Black Jury President at The Berlin International Film Festival

Lupita Nyong’o has made history as the first black jury president of the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) since its inception 74 years ago.

The Award-winning actress, known for her powerful performances in movies like “12 Years a Slave” and “Black Panther”, will lead a diverse panel tasked with assessing films contending for the prestigious Golden and Silver Bear honours.

This appointment carries considerable significance, as the Berlinale, alongside Cannes and Venice, stands as one of the “Big Three” film festivals worldwide. The appointment of a Black woman as its leader marks a significant stride towards enhanced inclusivity within the film sector.
