Meet the Nigerians in the Forbes Africa 30 under 30 list 2024

The Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 list highlights the continent’s brightest young minds and rising stars. Each year, Forbes Africa identifies and celebrates a diverse group of individuals under the age of 30 who are making significant strides in their respective fields. From entrepreneurs revolutionising industries to activists driving social change, the list showcases Africa’s next generation of leaders’ passion, innovation, and resilience. 

With a theme of “Passion, Purpose, And A Decade Of The 30 Under 30 List,” this year’s selection reflects Africa’s vibrant socio-economic landscape, highlighting the boundless potential and talent within its youngest population.

Meet the five Nigerians on the list this year:

1. Victor Osimhen

 Victor Osimhen - Forbes Africa 30 under 30

Born December 29, 1998, in Lagos, Nigeria, Victor Osimhen started out at the Ultimate Strikers Academy. His stellar performance in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, where he emerged as the tournament’s top scorer, brought him into the limelight. His European journey began with VfL Wolfsburg in 2017, followed by successful loan spells at Charleroi and Royal Mouscron.

While at Lille OSC, Victor Osimhen showcased his incredible talent by scoring 18 goals in the 2019-2020 season. He later transferred to Napoli in 2020 for a club-record fee of €70 million. In the 2021-22 season, he was awarded the Serie A Best Young Player award. The following season, he set a new record for an African player by finishing as the league’s top scorer with 26 goals. His impressive performance helped Napoli win their first Serie A title in 33 years.

2. Adedamola Oyinlola Adefolahan (Fireboy DML)

Fireboy DML, born Adedamola Oyinlola Adefolahan on February 5, 1996, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter signed to YBNL Nation, founded by rapper Olamide. Following his breakout single “Jealous” from the 2018 album “YBNL Mafia Family,” Fireboy gained widespread acclaim. He followed up with hits like “What If I Say” and “King”.

In 2019, Fireboy dropped his debut album “Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps,” a blend of R&B and Afropop. Fireboy DML’s music resonates with a fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, and Afropop, earning him critical acclaim and a growing fanbase. 

In 2020, Fireboy DML gained media coverage in Nigeria when his hit single “Champion” was used by FC Bayern Munich for their UEFA Super Cup celebrations. His song “Scatter” from his debut album, Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps, was included in the FIFA 21 game soundtrack. In November 2022, his song “Coming Back For You” was included in the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

3. Tobi Amusan

Amusan - Forbes Africa 30 under 30

Oluwatobiloba Ayomide “Tobi” Amusan, born April 23, 1997, is a Nigerian track and field athlete who specializes in the 100-meter hurdles and sprinting. From her early days competing in local meets to representing Nigeria on the international stage, Amusan has consistently showcased her prowess as a hurdler, leaving a trail of victories in her wake.

Amusan’s breakthrough came in 2018 when she clinched the gold medal in the 100m hurdles at the Commonwealth Games, solidifying her status as one of Africa’s top athletes. She became the first ever Nigerian world champion and world record holder in an athletics event when she won the 2022 World Championships 100 m hurdles gold medal, setting the current world record.

As she continues to dominate the track with her speed and agility, Tobi Amusan remains a shining example of what can be achieved through hard work, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of one’s dreams. 

4. Ruth Erikan James 

Ruth Eriksn - Forbes Africa 30 under 30

Ruth Erikan James, known as Veekee James, is a Nigerian fashion designer, gospel singer, and entrepreneur. Born on June 9, 1994, in Nsit Atai, Akwa Ibom State, she learned clothing design from her mother and founded her brand, “Veekee James,” in 2019.

Her innovative designs earned her recognition, including Best Designer of the Year at the AMVCA and Hercomony Awards. She’s also known for her gospel concerts and podcast, “Bible Stories With Veekee James,” and her masterclass in fashion has impacted over 100 creatives worldwide.

Ruth also convenes Zion Warship, a monthly gospel concert. In May 2023, she debuted her first single, “Nothing Less.”

5. Josiah Akinloye 

Josiah - Forbes Africa 30 under 30

Josiah Akinloye was born on May 9, 1994, and raised in Ikirun, Osun State. His early life laid the foundation for a journey marked by a profound commitment to technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Josiah Akinloye is a dedicated member of prestigious organizations such as the International Longevity Alliance, IEEE, and ForbesBLK.
