The Nommo Awards Long List spotlights the best of African Speculative Fiction and the works of several Nigerian authors such as Abie Dare, Akwaeke Emezi, Ben Okri, Tade Thompson, Tochi Onyebuchi, Yolande Horak, Dare Segun Falowo, Ekpeki Oghenechovwe Donald, Adelehin Ijasan, Chinelo Onwualu, Chinwe Marycynthia Okafor, Pemi Aguda, Olamide Olanrewaju, Osahon Ize-Iyamu, Somto O. Other African authors on the list include Lauren Beukes, Cat Hellisen, Ngugi Wa Thiong’o, Eugen Bacon and lots more.

The Nommo Award is a literary award presented by the African Speculative Fiction Society (ASFS). The award is named after Nommo, a primordial ancestral spirits in the Dogon religion and cosmogony (sometimes referred to as demi deities). Nommo Awards recognize works of speculative fiction by Africans, defined as “science fiction, fantasy, stories of magic and traditional belief, alternative histories, and horror novels. The Awards include four categories – the Novel Long List, Novella Long List, Short Story Long List and the Graphic Novel Long List.

The long list is an exciting step ahead of the upcoming Nommo Awards scheduled to hold later this year. The shortlist will be announced at the end of May, and voting will commence shortly afterwards.
