Omah Lay Wins Next Rated Award at the 14th Headies Awards Ceremony
The 14th Headies Awards recently recognized the achievements of Nigerian musicians who rocked the music industry with hit songs in the past year. The Next Rated award category is a competitive prize dedicated to the most promising upcoming musician in the year in review (2020). The 14th Headies Awards nominees list includes songs released between July 2019 and September 2020. The winner gets a car and joins an influential group of previous winners.
Omah Lay, Nigeria’s fast-rising star emerged winner of the Next Rated award category at the 14th edition of the annual Headies music awards ceremony, which held on the 21st of February 2021.
Omah Lay won the award ahead of other rising stars in the music industry such as Tems, Bella Shmurda and Oxlade, who were also listed in the category. This is a big win for Omah Lay as his contenders in the category also had hit songs with massive air plays.
Receiving the award, Omah Lay dedicated it to his team, family, fans and most importantly, God. He also dedicated the award to the fallen heroes at the #EndSars protest, and to those who stood tall against all odds.
Omah Lay previously received other nominations for the City People Music Award’s Best New Act of the Year 2020, and The Future Awards Africa Prize for Music, 2020. He was recently nominated for the Headies’ Best R&B Single, 2021 for his song, “Bad Influence” and the MTV Africa Music Award for Best Breakthrough Act, 2021.
Some of his songs include “Godly”, “Damn”, “Lo Lo”, and “You”.
