Founded in 2012 by Social Entrepreneur Orondaam Otto, the organization recognizes that there are severe shortcomings in the educational sector in Africa and is committed to transforming the lives of Africa’s most precious resource. The organization provides educational scholarships, creates safe learning spaces and uses 21st-century pedagogy and technology to improve learning outcomes and provide several other health and psychosocial supports for underserved children in slums and hard to reach communities.

Slum2school Kids

“About 3 months ago we saw that thousands of our kids in secondary and primary schools across slums and underserved communities weren’t learning and many were being engaged in various educational activities. We took a very audacious decision to attempt to build the first Virtual Learning Classroom/Studio in Nigeria and get digital tablets and laptops to thousands of our kids to aid virtual learning.” said Otto Orondaam, Social Entrepreneur and Founder, Slum2school Africa.

Slum2School collaborates with the government, private sector, individuals, civil society organizations and other developmental agencies towards building a resourceful and sustainable network. Most importantly building a network of socially responsible community of volunteers committed to social reformation.

With schools shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the virtual learning classroom was launched to help reach Slum2School’s students using digital technology. To achieve this, the team set up virtual and cluster learning programs across different communities through their state-of-the-art virtual learning structure.

Starting off with a student capacity of 948 children, the goal of the new virtual classroom is to reach 10,000 underserved learners through a virtual and cluster learning program. The development of connecting students during the home-based learning experience through technology proves very useful at this time.
