Sterling Bank Partners with Kwara State Government to Promote Health Insurance Scheme

Sterling Bank Plc has partnered with the Kwara State Government to promote its health insurance scheme. This was recently announced by the Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in Ilorin at the official launch of the scheme.  

Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq stated that the start of the health insurance scheme is a mark of progress and fulfilment of the third goal set by Kwara State Government in its Sustainable Development Goals(SDG) to be achieved in the state by 2030. The goal, which is; access to good health and well-being will be made effective, following the state’s partnership with Sterling Bank.

The governor stated that the scheme will take-off as a test-run with about 10,000 citizens across the 16 local government areas of the state.

Speaking on the essence of the health insurance scheme and its impact to the state, the governor stated that the scheme will surely increase the life expectancy of the people, promote good health and by extension strengthen the economy. The governor further indicated that health insurance schemes play a vital role in elevating the people and in improving their physical state.

Reacting to the partnership, Executive Director of Institutional Banking, Sterling Bank, Emmanuel Emefienim said that, one focus area of the bank is to foster development in the health sector, hence its commitment to partner with the Kwara state government.

He stated that the bank is focusing on the five main sectors of the economy which includes health, education, agriculture, renewable energy and transportation (HEART) to positively affect the Nigerian economy. In his statement,

“Sterling Bank is working with Kwara State Government to pioneer a truly inclusive healthcare delivery model. There is no better time to do that than now.”

He also mentioned that the Kwara State Government sought the support of Sterling Bank to aid the administrative cost for the development and acquisition of the scheme’s ICT software and hardware. The bank’s support will also be extended to the registration and biometric data capture of residents across 196 wards and 16 local government areas of the state.

The Executive Secretary of Kwara State Health Insurance Agency(KSHIA), Dr Olubunmi Jetawo-Winter, applauded Sterling Bank for providing support to necessitate the agency’s involvement of consultants to develop automated registration module that will be effective in capturing health data of state residents.

The state government is glad that Sterling Bank’s involvement in its health insurance scheme will make it efficient, properly structured, and implemented to suit a greater majority of residents in the state.
