Dr. Chika Esiobu
Dr. Chika Esiobu is a researcher, non-fiction/fiction writer, college professor, and public intellectual. She is a visiting Assistant Professor of African studies at Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo, California.
Dr. Esiobu’s research interests led her to explore the central but hardly acknowledged role of Indigenous knowledge in the global advancement discourse. Her doctoral research interests have been foundational in shaping her career trajectory ever since.
In addition to her numerous journal articles, book chapters, and essays, Dr. Esiobu has been invited to present her ideas across countries, institutions, and platforms, including TED Global, Yale University, Cambridge University, the London School of Economics, the Pan-African Parliament, the United Nations Development Program, the African Union, the Social Science Research Council, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the United Nations Public Service Awards Ceremony, and Standard Bank South Africa, among others.

Dr. Esiobu completed a master’s degree in International Relations and Affairs from the University of Warwick and a Doctor of Philosophy in African Development and Policy Studies from Howard University.
Dr. Esiobu has worked as a consultant for the World Bank Africa Region on projects that center around education, health and agriculture. Among her other research works is an International Development Research Center (IDRC) Canada study on leveraging indigenous technology to create jobs for women in Rwanda’s rural areas.
Dr. Esiobu has conducted research in partnership with the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER), the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD), the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida), and the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), among others.
Dr. Esiobu is the author of “Indigenous Knowledge and Education in Africa (Springer 2019”. She is also the executive director of research and publications at African Child Press and an honorary member of the University of Rwanda, College of Business and Economics.
