Samson Ogbole is Establishing Aeroponics in the Nigerian Agricultural Landscape
In a bid to tackle some of the challenges faced by the Nigerian Agricultural sector, Samson Ogbole is using the aeroponics method, a process of growing plants in an air or mist environment without the use of soil, to enable food security in Nigeria.
Samson first encountered soilless farming in 2014, and after two years, he founded PS Nutraceuticals, the foremost promoter of soilless farming in Nigeria; with the aim of implementing cutting-edge agricultural solutions in the Nigerian agricultural sector. Samson Ogbole is the Team Lead at Eupepsia Place Limited (Soilless Farm Lab) – www.sfarmlab.com. For Samson, Agriculture is beyond food production. At Soilless Farm Lab, Samson understands the basic problem of agriculture which includes maximizing production without harming the environment and eliminating post-harvest loss. The lab is a technology enabler for agriculture, where tools are developed and deployed. Samson alongside his team carry out most of their agricultural activities in the lab and not on the farm; a reason it is called the soilless lab. He sees Agriculture as the foundation for sustainable development, job creation, healthier living as well as national development.
One of Samson’s beliefs is that Agriculture must adopt a business mindset, technological innovations, automation, precision and data to be climate-smart. Following his belief, he has deployed resources to build modern farms, leveraging innovative technologies to boost agricultural development in Africa as well as training others to adopt modern Agriculture. To this end, Samson wants to ensure that Nigerians and Africans use Agriculture as a tool to build the nation and continent we envisage. The innovative farmer believes food production and supply should not be seasonal because hunger is not seasonal.
His educational background is a credit to his name, career and global impacts. The agricultural expert completed a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science and a doctor’s degree in Biochemistry from Igbinedion University, University of Ibadan and Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta respectively. As well as his degrees, he holds other certifications in Disruptive Strategy from Harvard Business School, Boston, USA; Biotechnology from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta; Introduction to Food and Nutrition from Stanford University and others from recognized institutions across the globe.
In recognition of his extensive impact on the Nigerian agricultural landscape, Samson has been recognized and featured on various national and international platforms. He is a two-time TEDx speaker and a TED speaker. He was recognized among the Top 7 Innovators in 2018 by CNN Africa, part of the Ogun State Investors Forum of 2018 and was named among one of the young and legitimate innovative minds by EFCC, also in the year 2018. In 2019, Samson was named among the Top 500 Food Tech-preneurs by Forward Fooding and was part of the Lagos Farmers’ Team, who met and discussed with all gubernatorial aspirants for the 2019 elections to decide on the state of the Nigerian agricultural economy.
