AMAA 2021 Awards: See the Full List of Nominees

The Africa Film Academy, organizers of the prestigious African Movie Academy Awards – AMAA, have announced the nominees for the 17th edition of the AMAA awards. The announcement was made recently at the EbonyLife Place in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.

Head of the jury, Hon. Steve Ayorinde, while announcing the AMAA awards nominees for the 26 categories, said movies were submitted from different countries in Africa. According to him, the 2021 list of Nominees reflects the brilliance of filmmakers across the continent.

Amongst the nominees, the Somalian film “Gravedigger’s Wife” led the nominations with 10 nods. It received nominations in categories including ‘Award for Best Film in African Language’, ‘Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and ‘Best Director. Movies like “Nyara” (Tanzania), “Omo Ghetto: The Saga” (Nigeria), “Eyimofe” (Nigeria), “African American” (South Africa) and “Ayinla” (Nigeria) also received multiple nominations.

Nigerian reality TV star Oluwabamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan (Bam-Bam) was nominated in “Best Young/Promising Actor” for her role in the movie Collision Course. Nollywood star Ini Edo was nominated for Best Actress in Supporting Role for her role in “Citation“, Nonso Bassey for Best Actor in Leading Role for his role in “La Femme Anjola“, and Gloria Anozie-Young for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her role in “Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story“.

The AMAA 2021 Gala and Awards ceremony is scheduled for the 28th of November 2021, at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Nigeria. The event will be aired live in more than 40 countries across Africa and around the world.
