Amarachi Nwosu
“Your art should reflect your truth. Do not ignore your truth trying to uphold someone else’s standards or expectations,” says Amarachi Nwosu, a self-taught filmmaker, artist, writer, and producer.
Amarachi Nwosu is the founder of Melanin Unscripted (MU), a media platform and creative studio aimed at removing stereotypes and cultural bias by exposing complex identities and cultures around the world.
Through MU’s global creative community, Amarachi Nwosu creates stories, conversations, and experiences centered around underrepresented narratives that are both timely and timeless. This informs her approach as a film director, writer, and producer.
Under Melanin Unscripted, the creative has produced and directed films like “Black In Tokyo”, a groundbreaking short documentary that exposes the black experience living in Tokyo, Japan. The documentary has since release, amassed over 1.5million views on youtube and has stirred constructive conversations on various international platforms on issues bothering around diversity and cross-cultural engagement.

Amarachi previously premiered her debut feature film “The Ones Who Keep Walking”, the first feature documentary film on African creatives in contemporary cinema. The film was presented by Johnnie Walker. It tells the story of over 20 creatives across 14 countries on the African continent and the diaspora.
Recently, she was announced as an honoree in Forbes Africa 30 under 30 Class of 2021 list in the creative visual arts industry. She has also been featured on international platforms such as Vogue Magazine, The Japan Times, Huffington Post, and Black Enterprise amongst others.
With a background in International Communications, Amarachi has worked in Lagos, the US, Tokyo, and London. She has collaborated with global powerhouses such as Nike, Adidas Tokyo, Sony Music, and Apple and has shot influential figures like Malala, Naomi Campbell, and Childish Gambino.
As well as her passion for creativity, Amarachi also engages in different community outreaches. This has seen her create and lead social impact projects for kids in Nigeria. One of such was her collaboration with the Khan Foundation, in Makoko, one of the slums in Lagos. Through this project, she raised over $11,000 in COVID relief through her short film “Rise in Light”, starring Alton Mason.
Amarachi’s global outlook and impact-centered approach set the pace for the creative universe she is building through film, storytelling, and media.
