Awele Emili

Awele Emili is a self-taught, award-winning Digital Illustrator and Animator creating visually appealing designs. This young illustrator sits at the height of creators by the sheer virtue of hard work, dedication and persistence. Recently, she partnered with Facebook Africa to design the International Women’s Day book titled, LeadHers: Life Lessons from African Women, which launched in March 2021. The book is targeted at amplifying the stories of African women in order to inspire young girls and youths across the African continent.

Awele’s works are inspired by the observation of things, people, events and other real-life situations. Her early obsessions of watching favourite shows on Cartoon Network – Nickelodeon and Disney have greatly impacted her work and life permanently. The excellence and value of her works are not farfetched, following her rich clientele of globally recognized institutions and companies such as World Bank Group, UN Women, European Union, Facebook, First Bank Nigeria, Mavin Records, Red Velvet Music Group, Universal Music Group, Slum2school Africa, The La Casera Company and a host of others.

A star in her space, Awele’s artworks are well-detailed, expressive, educative and most importantly, entertaining. Some of her works have reflected real-life situations, exploring issues on health, early symptoms and simple preventions as well as mental health protection. As a medical illustrator, she is driving an independent effort to scale up medicine and science with art and animation, in order to widen its reach to a broader audience, support healthcare research, charities, and health engagement efforts across the globe.

In recognition of her efforts in the medical space, she became an Arts in Medicine Fellow in March 2018, an organization that creates art murals to help transform the healthcare experience for patients, their families and caregivers. In 2017, Awele also received an award from the United Nations Women and European Union on the gender equality initiative, for creating a comical and visual representation of the situation in Nigeria, which was presented by Toyin Saraki; Founder/President, Wellbeing Foundation Africa.

Awele Emili is an inspiring creator who believes in the strength and decision of a person. In her view, consistency with skills and strengths is key irrespective of defying situations. She is working towards being recognized as one of the top animators and illustrators in Africa by creating quality and internationally relevant contents that can compete on a global scale. She actively volunteers for Slum2school Africa NGO, where she teaches beneficiaries graphic design skills and computer literacy.
