Bukky Bakray Wins EE Rising Star Award at 2021 BAFTAs
Nigerian-British actress Bukky Bakray has received the EE Rising Star Award at the 2021 BAFTAs, amid loud cheering from friends, family, and fans.
The young and amazing actress received the prestigious accolade after appearing in the BAFTA-nominated film Rocks, which was directed by Sarah Gavron. Bukky, 19 was discovered by Sarah at age 15, earning her first-ever acting role.
The star actress secured the win for her title role in the British film Rocks, where she played the role of Shola ‘Rocks’ Omotosho; a schoolgirl in East London, who is forced to cater for herself alongside her little brother after the sudden disappearance of their mother.
Star of the now award-winning film Rocks, Bukky Bakray took home the award with a truly priceless reaction, ahead of Kingsley Ben-Adir, Morfydd Clark, Conrad Khan and Sope Dirisu.

As well as her Rising Star Award, Bukky has secured nominations from the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) and London Critics’ Circle. She was also shortlisted in the Leading Actress category at the BAFTAs.
Bukky is currently enrolled in Theatre Peckham’s Originate Acting Course, where young performers receive specialist training from high-ranking drama institutions such as Guildhall School and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.
The 74th annual British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) ceremony honoured the finest personalities in feature performances, editing, directing and other categories. Nominees were selected virtually via live streaming from the Royal Albert Hall.
