DJ Cuppy is a distinguished member of the recently announced Forbes Africa’s 30 Under 30 2020 achievers list.
Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola is professionally known as DJ Cuppy. She is a global Disc Jockey, Musician, entrepreneur and founder of the Cuppy Foundation.
Many would have expected DJ Cuppy to follow in her family’s oil business and become a commercial specialist.
“I was convinced my plan was to make lots of money and be the next Femi Otedola!” she says.
But deep down, she longed to pursue a career in music.
As a teen, she performed at local parties, events and in front of crowds filled with youthful energy. By the time she turned 18, whilst attaining a BSc in Economics and Management at Kings College London, she was already producing her own tracks and DJ’ing around the world.
Deciding to follow her passion for music, Cuppy’s DJ skills have taken her to over 25 countries and she continues to fill dance floors across the globe.
In 2014, Cuppy released her first compilation House of Cuppy, which saw her pioneer a fresh new sound she dubbed “Neo-Afrobeats” -an electric blend of Tropical House and Afrobeats music. The compilation was launched successfully in London, New York, and Lagos, and the following year was succeeded by an 8-country tour, Cuppy Takes Africa, which became a TV show on FOX.
