Modupe Adefeso-Olateju

Modupe Adefeso-Olateju is Managing Director of The Education Partnership Centre (TEP Centre), Nigeria’s pioneer education partnership organization that specializes in research, design, implementation, support and evaluation of education programmes and initiatives across various sectors of the economy. 

Modupe Adefeso-Olateju is a renowned policy expert who focuses on public-private partnerships in the education sector. She leads workstreams on a range of support initiatives, funded or assisted by international donors and corporate funders, and trains public sector officials and development organizations on strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation.  

Modupe’s educational background includes a master’s degree with Distinction from the Institute of Education – University College London, and a doctorate in Education and International Development from the same university.

Modupe leads the implementation of LEARNigeria; Nigeria’s tech-enabled citizen-led household assessment and advocacy programme, which in partnership with the government and corporate sector, is assessing the foundational literacy and numeracy competencies of over 100,000 children and youth between the ages of 5 and 18 in Nigeria. She led the establishment of the pan-African Education Innovation Summit (NEDIS), now in its sixth year. NEDIS is a platform for identifying and scaling meaningful innovations in the education sector.

In 2020, Modupe was appointed as a member of the Technical Working Group (TWG) charged with the responsibility of developing Nigeria’s Medium-Term National Development Plans (2021-2025 and 2026-2030) and the country’s strategic plan; the Nigeria Agenda 2050. Since 2019, she has been the co-convener of the Federal Ministry of Education’s summit – Nigeria’s Annual Education Conference (NAEC). She also wrote a section of the Federal Ministry of Education’s Strategic Plan for Education (2011-2015). 

Modupe has served as Monitoring and Evaluation Workstream Lead with UK-DfID’s ESSPIN Programme, Business Analyst with Accenture, Vice President at Junior Achievement and worked in the banking sector for two years. She currently serves as a Board Trustee of impactful non-profit organizations such as Malala Fund, Unveiling Africa Foundation, Slum2School Africa and ERIT.

Modupe also serves on the Advisory Committee of the Brookings Institution Center for Universal Education (CUE) Millions Learning Programme in D.C., and is an Advisory Committee Member of the Nairobi-based People’s Action for Learning (PAL) Network which includes 15 members committed to citizen-led assessments and evidence-based learning programmes across the global South. 

Modupe is a 2020 Fellow of the Asia-Global Institute in Hong Kong, an Honorary Fellow of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), and was a Crans Montana Fellow, Geneva.
