The United States President-elect, Joe Biden has appointed a Nigerian-American, Funmi Olorunnipa Badejo as a member of the office of the White House Counsel, to serve as an Associate Counsel. She was named among over 20 lawyers appointed into the House Counsel Office to help restore faith in the rule of law and to ensure the accountability of government institutions under the direction of White House Counsel, Dana Remus. Funmi joins a team of experienced and accomplished individuals with a broad range of knowledge across various fields. 

Since becoming the U.S. President-elect after the elections which held in November 2020, Joe Biden has carried out strategic moves in terms of making crucial nominations/appointments across races, such as the nomination of Nigerian-American, Adewale Adeyemo and the appointment of Osaremen Okolo and Funmi Olorunnipa Badejo as Deputy Treasury Secretary, COVID-19 Policy Advisor and Associate Counsel respectively.

Prior to joining the White House Counsel, Funmi was General Counsel of the White House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, chaired by House Majority Whip, James E. Clyburn in May 2020 and was Legal Counsel at Palantir Technologies from 2017 to 2020. 

Funmi previously served as Counsel for Policy to the Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Division of the US Department of Justice from 2016 to 2017, Ethics Counsel at the Office of the White House Counsel from 2015 to 2016 and as Attorney-Advisor at the Administrative Conference of the United States during the Obama-Biden administration, from 2010 to 2015.

She started her legal career as Associate at Manatt, Phelps and Phillips, LLP from 2007 to 2010.

Funmi holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Public Relations from the University of Florida. She also obtained a Master of Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School and a Doctor of Law degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law.

With over 13 years’ experience in the legal space, Funmi has gained expertise in related areas such as Litigation, Corporate Internal Investigations, Legal Compliance, Regulatory Compliance, Data Security and Ethics.

She brings on board extensive knowledge of legal practices that will ensure thorough accountability and raise the ethical standard of the Biden-Harris administration.
