Google Arts and Culture’s Eko for Show to Showcase Lagos’ Creatives to the World
Lagos, one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities and a major financial hub on the continent boasts of the fourth-highest GDP. Over the years, Lagos has attracted worldwide attention for being a creative hub, many thanks to the more than 25 million people who comprise this community of talent and excellence.
In light of this, Google Arts and Culture recently announced the launch of Eko for Show, an initiative aimed at showcasing Lagos and its host of creative geniuses. As the creative industry in Nigeria teems with the potential for economic growth, the Eko for Show project will focus on celebrating Lagos as home to some of Africa’s finest creatives.
On a mission to preserve and promote the world’s art and culture online to everyone, anywhere in the world, Google Arts & Culture’s Eko for Show will celebrate the creative industry of Lagos and share the buzz, even if virtually, through the works and stories of its incredible youth and culture.
With over 100 creative across the space of music, musicals, art, photography, fashion, literature and food, the online exhibition will spotlight the city’s exceptional creative community, to inspire the next generation of creatives on the continent.

Eko for Show event partners with seven of the top cultural institutions in Lagos, including the African Artists Foundation, Lagos Fashion Week, Homecoming, Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, Rele Arts Foundation, the Centenary Project and Terra Culture. The partnership with these institutions will enable audiences to virtually engage with some of the city’s finest music makers, visual artists, storytellers, trendsetters and foodies.
The partners have shared over 8000 photographs, 80 online stories, 3 Street View experiences and 175 videos, all presented in a unified online experience.
Eko for Show can be accessed via g.co/ekoforshow and by downloading the free Google Arts and Culture app.
Highlights include essays by ten women writers who share their reflections on Lagos, including Molara Wood, and Lola Shoneyin. Others include behind-the-scenes interviews with Afrobeats stars; Teni the Entertainer, Kizz Daniel and others. Exhibition by artists, galleries, and paintings are also exciting features on Eko for Show.
