On the award, here’s what Iheanacho has to say:

”I’m so pleased and honoured to win this award. It is great to be recognized, but I couldn’t have done it without the support of my teammates and the manager.

I’m really enjoying playing at the minute and hopefully, I can push on and help the team to finish as high as possible this season.’”

The Foxes’ striker was one of the eight contenders for the award and won ahead of  Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen, Tottenham striker Harry Kane, West Ham’s Jesse Lingard, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, Leeds goalkeeper IIIan Meslier, Brighton’s Leandro Trossard and Manchester United defender Luke Shaw.

The Nigeria International has received accolades from fans for breaking the record set by Ivorian football icon Didier Drogba, for the most goals scored by an African player in the FA Cup.

Apart from Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Iheanacho is the only player within the English game to have scored 20 or more goals across the two domestic cup competitions since his debut for Manchester City in August 2015.

Congratulations Kelechi Iheanacho!
