Kemi Badenoch is the Nigeria-British Politician Competing for the UK’s Prime Minister Position
Kemi Badenoch, a Nigerian-British politician and Member of Parliament (MP), is currently competing to become the Conservative leader and British Prime Minister.
Kemi Badenoch is in the race with five others including former UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak, Penny Mordaunt, Tom Tugendhat, Liz Truss, and Suella Braverman.
Kemi has been endorsed by a former cabinet minister, Michael Gove as well as several other senior Conservative members like Neil O’Brien, MP for Harborough; Michael Gove, MP for Surrey Heath; Lee Rowley; and Gareth Bacon, MP for Orpington.
In her campaign launch at the headquarters of the Policy Exchange think-tank in Westminster, Kemi said she believes in “free markets, limited government, and a strong nation-state”. The UK prime minister to replace Johnson would be announced on the 5th of September, 2022.

Kemi was born in Wimbledon, London to Nigerian parents and spent her childhood in the United States and Nigeria.
A former UK Equalities minister, Kemi was elected as a Member of Parliament for Saffron Walden in 2017. She has previously held roles as Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Education. She is also a former Vice-Chair of the Conservative Party and former member of the Justice Select Committee.
Before she was elected a Member of Parliament, Kemi was a Conservative member of the London Assembly, acting as the GLA Conservative’s spokesperson for the economy.
Kemi is an alumnus of the University of Sussex, Birkbeck, and the University of London.
