LEKKI CONSERVATION CENTER (LCC)

The Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC) was established in 1990 by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) to serve as a biodiversity conservation icon and environment education center. The field of environmental conservation focuses on the management of the biosphere to sustain the benefits for present and future generations.

The LCC has grown into one of Africa’s prominent and most-diverse urban Nature Parks due to its high species richness and activities. The LCC occupies the number one spot of places to visit in Lagos as a tourist on Trip Advisor with 4 stars and over 500 reviews.

The reserve is home to a library and a variety of wildlife, including monkeys, tortoises, and rare birds. Raised walkways enable the viewing of animals like monkeys, crocodiles, snakes, and various birds. The LCC wetlands have a figure-of-eight system of footpaths, with hiking trails and steppingstones to cross waterways.

The Lekki Conservation Centre has the Longest Canopy Walkway in Africa. The canopy walkway consists of 6 towers with a height of 22 feet each. They are linked by a series of suspended walkways that offer a rare and adrenaline-pumping magnificent view above the treetops. The treetop walkway is about 1,315 feet long making it the longest canopy walk in Africa.

The best time to visit is during the dry season between November and March to be able to fully participate in the recreational activities of the LCC. During the raining season, as expected the area is wet and muddy.

Other than the mind-blowing canopy walk, other recreational activities at the LCC include; Tree House, Nature Station, Life size board games, Bird Hide, Swamp Lookout Station, Rotunda, 96-Seater Gazebos, Koi & Tilapia ponds, Beach Volleyball courts & Spectators’ pavilion, Barbecue joints, and gym facilities.
