The 29-year-old also converts Internal Combustion Engine (ICE)-vehicles into battery-powered ones. His works includes electric, solar-powered commercial buses and tricycles, has attracted the attention of the Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo and the Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) Jelani Aliyu.

Mustapha, who gained admission into the University of Maiduguri in 2012, studied Mechanical Engineering for three years before going on to feed his passion for renewable energy, innovation and technical creativity. He started Phoenix Renewables Limited in 2014 and has recently decided to return to school. He is now enrolled in the National Open University, Maiduguri Study Centre.
Mustapha has scaled his business from electrifying buses to full design, and fabrication of electric buses locally in Maiduguri, Nigeria. The buses are a 12-seater fully air conditioned electric bus with a range of 200km on one charge.
With this technology, he wants to be able to improve transportation in Nigeria. The entrepreneur hopes to expand further by exporting the vehicles to other African countries.
