Nigeria Ballet School Spreading the Love of Ballet – Leap of Faith Academy
A young Nigeria boy recently received a lot of positive attention when his ballet video trended on twitter. In the video, he was dancing to his ballet routine on a concrete floor in the rain. The video currently has 14M+ views.
Leap of Dance Academy is a ballet school in Lagos with an objective to teach classical dance to underprivileged children in Nigeria. The school was founded by self-taught ballet lover Daniel Ajala, in 2017.
Daniel Ajala funds the academy out of his own pocket. The academy currently has 12 pupils aged between six and 15. The ballet lessons are free, shoes and kit provided to the children, most of whom had never heard of ballet before they got involved.
“Ballet is for people who have money, because ballet is expensive,” Ajala said.
Nigerian media personality, Fade Ogunro, responded on Twitter and offered to sponsor the education of the dancing boy from the ballet academy whose dance routine went viral. Fade said “As a former ballerina I’m jealous of his beautiful lines, his toe points and his effortless gracefulness. @leapofdanceacademy I want to pay for his entire formal education anywhere in the world until he graduates from university.”
