Nigerian Ph.D. Student Bashir Isa Dodo Wins Brunel University Uk’s Dean Prize for Impact and Innovation
Bashir Isa Dodo a Nigerian Ph.D. student at Brunel University, London has been awarded Brunel University’s Dean Prize for Impact and Innovation as well as the Vice Chancellor’s Prize for Doctoral Research.
In a statement released by the university, the University stated, “We are extremely excited to announce Dr. Bashir Dodo has been awarded the 2020 Dean’s Prize for Innovation and Impact. The underlying research is on retinal layer segmentation from OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) images, which has contributed to the clinical protocol for glaucoma diagnosis.”
Bashir Isa Dodo received his B.Sc. degree (Hons.) in software engineering and his M.Sc. degree in computer systems engineering (software systems) from the University of East London, UK, in 2011 and 2013, respectively. He was an Assistant Lecturer with Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Nigeria, from 2013 to 2015.
Bashir has presented his work at various seminars, symposiums and conferences. He was part of the local organizing committee of the 16th International Symposium on Intelligent Data Analysis (IDA 2017). Bashir’s publications have been cited in Research Gate with 489 Reads and 1 citation.
During his PhD, Bashir won a number of research awards including Best student paper” presented at the Bioimaging conference in Portugal in 2018. Bashir’s work has been featured in various media such as BBC World and TVC News.

Bashir’s main research interests are in medical image analysis and video processing. Other research interests include software engineering, motion detection, computer vision, image processing and big data analytics.
