Nine Things To Know About the Newly Crowned Olu of Warri, Tsola Emiko

The Warri Kingdom recently hosted the world when it celebrated the coronation of the new Olu of Warri. Lots of dignitaries and Itsekiri sons and daughters attended the coronation event in the Ode-Itsekiri (Big Warri), the Itsekiris’ ancient palace in Delta State’s Warri South Local Government Area. Known for their elegant dressing, the Itsekiri displayed the finest of their cultural attires at the coronation of king Utienyinoritsetsola Emiko.

Following the demise of His Royal Majesty Ogiame Ikenwoli, Prince Tsola Emiko was chosen as the Olu of Warri designate. After the announcement, 20 cannon shots were fired to signify that 20 Olus had reigned over the Iwere nation. Tsola Emiko was crowned the 21st Olu of Warri after a 90-day seclusion period in which he was fully educated on the Itsekiri custom and tradition as well as kingship protocols.

The Itsekiri are regarded as part of the extended House of Oduduwa by the Yoruba people and their language sounds like a distant dialect of the Yoruba people.
