Inspirational personalities abound in Nigeria; indeed, our greatest talent is our people. Today, we bring to your revered attention, a great role model, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah, Nigeria’s former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment.
Given his more popular profile as a financial expert, one would expect his appellation to be from a doctoral program. However, he is a trained medical doctor, who received his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Nsukka with his name on the Dean’s Honors List. A Dean’s Honors list is an academic award used to recognize the level of high scholarship demonstrated by the top students in a college or university.
Post his medical degree, Dr. Enelamah became a member of ICAN in 1992 and was awarded national prizes from the institute. He went to do a post-graduate degree at the great Harvard University where he was elected George F. Baker Scholar and designated Loeb Fellow for academic excellence in the area of finance at the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, earning his Master of Business Administration [MBA] with distinction in 1994.

Yearning for more knowledge and successes, he became a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a most coveted certification in the financial world. He was one of the first few people in the country to bag the designation of a Chartered Financial Analyst in 1997.
Professionally, Dr. Enelamah worked as an Audit Senior and Consultant with 1988 at Arthur Anderson (now KPMG Professional Services). He later worked in the New York and London offices of Goldman Sachs in 1993 before joining Zephyr Management as an investment manager where he rose to Principal in the Johannesburg office between 1995 and 1997.
Dr. Enelamah cofounded African Capital Alliance (ACA), a private equity firm, in 1997 where he served as CEO until his appointment to the Industry, Trade, and Investment portfolio in November 2015. ACA is a leading pan-African investment firm sponsoring funds and managing investments in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Given, their international structure and strong local expertise, they are to raise funds from investors across the globe for investment in specific sectors in Sub-Saharan Africa. Notably, ACA has achieved an aggregate capital commitment of over $1 billion from investors since inception.
