Olusegun Ogunsanya has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Africa Plc, a leading provider of telecommunications and mobile money services in Nigeria and other countries in Africa. Olusegun Ogunsanya’s appointment follows the retirement of the outgoing MD/CEO of Airtel Africa, Raghunath Mandava, who has led the company since April 2016. 

The information was disclosed in a statement by Airtel Africa to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) and signed by its Group Company Secretary, Simon O’Hara. According to the statement, Olusegun Ogunsanya, who is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria would join the Board of Airtel Africa on the 1st of October 2021.

Mr Bharti Mitral, Chairman of Airtel Africa is confident that Segun’s commitment alongside his industry experience, strategic vision, constant customer focus and proven track record of delivery will enable him to deliver the strategic objectives of the telecoms and lead the Group in the next stages of development.

Segun is a well-versed business expert with over 25 years of management-level industry experience across banking, consumer goods and telecoms.

On joining Airtel Africa in 2012, Segun served as the Managing Director and CEO of the Nigeria subsidiaries, where he led and supervised the overall management of the company’s operations in Nigeria, its largest market in Africa.

Before Airtel in 2012, Segun held various leadership roles in globally recognized organizations. He was Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Coca-Cola Hellenic, Nigeria (Nigerian Bottling Company) from September 2011 to December 2012 and served across leadership roles at Coca-Cola in the Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya operations, progressively from 1994 to 2009. Segun was also Group Head of retail banking operations at Ecobank Transactional Inc, with operations across 28 African countries.

Segun is a Chartered Accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University.
