Richmond Bassey is a technology entrepreneur, an analyst as well as the CEO and co-founder of Bamboo – a digital investment platform that gives Nigerians real-time access to buy, hold, or sell stocks listed on the U.S. stock market and the Nigerian Stock Exchange (N.S.E) right from their mobile phones or computers.

Richmond is an alumnus of Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, England with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He also has a master’s degree in management and organizational innovation from Queen Mary University of London.

Prior to founding Bamboo, Richmond has had extensive experience in leading and managing technology projects for companies like Mastercard, Babybliss, L5 Labs and was the former chief of staff at Helium health.

Passionate about helping young and growing adults grow wealth by investing in the US stocks, Richmond, and his co-founder Yanmo Omorogbe created Bamboo in 2019, bringing together a combined experience of 12 years in business and technology. With Bamboo, Nigerians get unrestricted access to over 3,000 stocks listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) and the U.S. stock market. Bamboo curates top stocks, Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) and American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) in the United States. With a sum as low as $20 and access to fractional shares, Bamboo is accessible to almost anyone no matter their financial strength. The company has developed Android and iOS apps that allow users to discover the best local and global companies for investment on the go. Millennials in Nigeria can now purchase shares in companies like Tesla, Facebook and PayPal. In funding, Bamboo has raised over $150K in funding till date.

In 2020, Bamboo was one of the startups that pitched at Y Combinator’s Winter 2020 Demo Day and was one of the 200 companies selected for Forbes’ first Digital Startup Accelerator Program in Nigeria.
