Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, recently made a major move with an international record label. The musician has signed with Knitting Factory Management, the artist management division of the venue and concert company, Knitting Factory Entertainment.

This new development was disclosed by Seun Kuti’s manager Aaron Johnson, who stated that ‘Seun Kuti, like his father, Fela is more than a musician or composer’. Aaron further said that Seun Kuti ‘is an artist who speaks truth to power and won’t compromise his values or beliefs.

While expressing his delight on the music deal, Morgan Margolis, CEO of Knitting Factory Entertainment remarked that ‘the Kuti’s family are part of Knitting Factory’s DNA’. Meanwhile, Seun Kuti was also delighted to be a part of the ‘Knitting Factory family’.

The record label has been responsible for promoting Seun Kuti’s late father and musical icon Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s music over the past years. 

This huge move by Seun Kuti is set to unveil a new chapter in his career as well as the sustained legacy of his family’s work.

In 2020, Seun alongside Femi Kuti, Made Kuti, and other notable musicians like Joeboy, Niniola, Wande Coal, WurLD, Antibalas, and others took to the stage to perform in the annual Felabration Music Festival.

Seun Kuti, the youngest son of the late afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti kicked off his career at the tender age of nine and joined Fela’s band, Egypt 80 at the age of 12. Seun later led the band, following Fela’s demise in 1997. Fast forward to 2014, Seun was given an honorary invitation to perform live for the first time at the Industry Nite. 

In 2018, his song ‘Black Times’ was nominated for the Grammys, in the World Music Category. Seun was later featured on 85 to Africa, the second album by American rapper Jidenna, in 2019.
