Temidayo Isaiah Oniosun

Temidayo Isaiah Oniosun is a Space Scientist, Founder, and Managing Director of Space in Africa. Space in Africa is the leading analytics and consulting company shaping the future of the African space and satellite industry. Temidayo also works as Chief Technology Officer of Ideal Space Technologies, a business capitalizing on space technologies and open data to solve developmental problems in Africa. Before this, he was the African Regional Coordinator for the Space Generation Advisory Council.

For Temidayo, space exploration shows that anything is possible. He founded Space in Africa in 2018 following his attraction to outer space and personal conviction that the solutions to some of Earth’s biggest problems lie within space and space technologies. He also wants to create opportunities for students and young professionals in the space industry. 

Temidayo’s over seven years of experience in the industry has seen him advise governments and top commercial space players in the industry value chain. He has led several strategy and policy consulting projects for both government and commercial stakeholders and recently, led the African Union Commission baseline studies on the four-space segments and the socio-economic benefits of the establishment of the African Space Agency.

Temidayo earned a bachelor’s degree in Meteorology from the University of Technology Akure, Nigeria; and a master’s degree in Satellite Applications from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. He is a doctoral student at the University of Delaware, where he researches the global political economy of outer space development and how countries in Africa are effectively capitalizing on space technologies. 

Temidayo gives back to the community through the Temidayo Oniosun Foundation, a non-profit committed to making a positive and long-lasting impact on the community. The foundation addresses issues relating to poverty, health, welfare, and education. In February 2022, forty senior secondary students and school leavers, eligible to take the Joint Admission Matriculation (JAMB) examination for the academic year 2021/2022 were funded.

The success and innovative nature of Temidayo’s work have led him to clinch numerous awards including the Forbes Africa 30 under 30, an award that showcases some of the best talents in Africa; the 2020 Karman Fellowship, and the 2016 International Astronautical Federation’s Emerging Space Leadership Award.

Temidayo is featured regularly on various media discussing African space and satellite programs.
