The Igbo World Festival of Arts, Language and Culture, USA
The Igbo World Festival of Arts and Culture is regarded as the most popular Igbo Cultural Festival in the diaspora. The festival showcases the peculiarities of the Igbo people, culturally regarded as Ndigbo. It recognizes their roots, cultural heritage, and cross-continental influences.
The Igbo World Festival of Arts, Language and Culture is organized by the Council of Igbo States in the United States of America. This year’s event will hold from the 28th to 30th of July, 2022 in Frontier Museum, Igbo Farm Village, Virginia, USA.
Themed “Reconnecting in Time and Space,” this year’s edition will hold physically as against the 2020 and 2021 edition held virtually due to the global pandemic.
The Igbo World Festival of Arts, Language and Culture which started officially in 2008 has welcomed participants from different parts of the world including Nigeria, USA, Colombia, Canada, Mali, South Africa, Liberia, Cameroun, Ghana, London, Gabon, Trinidad, Togo, Jamaica, Haiti and Babados to name a few. Participants have no doubt witnessed and enjoyed one of the most unique cultural exhibitions of the Igbo tribe outside Nigeria.

The festival reflects the cultural abundance of the Igbo people and their contributions to the promotion of love, peace, unity and stewardship in Nigeria and around the world. It also reminds us of what unites us not only as Africans, but also as members of the global community.
What you can expect at the Festival
Yearly, tourists attend the Igbo World Festival of Arts and Language with lots of expectations. Here are some of the attractions the festival presents:
- Unique Igbo cultural entertainment featuring captivating dancers, masquerades, arts and crafts, and more.
- The venue of the Festival, Igbo Village, is the only one of its kind in the Diaspora. Participants will see what a typical Igbo farm village compound looked and felt like 200 – 300 years ago.
- Learning programs for children and adults, including crafts, language, dressing and other classes.
- Exhibition of Igbo artifacts
- Display of talents and crafts by Igbo youths and adults
- A formal ceremony that reunites African Americans with their living relatives in Igbo land based on DNA test results.
- A Naming Ceremony in which, among other things, African Americans of Igbo descent receive traditional Igbo names.
- Group and one-on-one discussions with Igbo royalties, scholars and hundreds of attendees from numerous countries.
- Gala Night dinner, fundraiser, entertainment, music and dance.
- Fun activities including games and an opportunity to tour nearby attractions.
- Business and networking opportunities
