Fans of Lola Shoneyin’s celebrated novel have finally received the update they have been waiting for. Months after announcing the first wave of actors, media entrepreneur, Mo Abudu and EbonyLife Films have officially unveiled the complete cast and character lineup for The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, one of Nollywood’s most anticipated films of 2026.
The adaptation, directed by Daniel Oriahi, is scheduled to premiere in cinemas nationwide on December 4, 2026. Beyond the impressive cast, the character reveal offers audiences their first real glimpse into the personalities that will bring one of Nigeria’s most acclaimed literary works to life on the big screen.
An All-star Cast Steps into a Beloved Nigerian Classic

Leading the ensemble is Odunlade Adekola as the wealthy patriarch, Baba Segi, a man whose seemingly perfect polygamous household hides years of carefully guarded secrets.

His wives are portrayed by some of Nollywood’s biggest names. Iyabo Ojo takes on the role of Iya Segi, described as the household’s master strategist, while Mercy Aigbe plays Iya Tope, the peacemaker who often keeps tensions from boiling over. Bimbo Ademoye appears as the ambitious Iya Femi, and Omowunmi Dada plays Bolanle, the educated fourth wife whose arrival disrupts the family’s carefully balanced order.

The supporting cast is equally impressive. Bimbo Manuel plays Teacher, Bisola Aiyeola appears as Yemisi, Nkechi Blessing Sunday takes on the role of Mrs Bakare, while Uzor Arukwe stars as Dr Ade. Nancy Isime plays Bisi, Kunle Remi portrays Tunde, and Daniel Etim-Effiong joins the film as the Truth Seeker.

Veteran actors including Faithia Williams, Mike Ezuruonye, Tina Mba, Femi Branch, Damilola Adegbite, Blessing Jessica Obasi and several others complete what is arguably one of the strongest Nollywood ensembles assembled this year.
Every Character Tells a Story
Rather than simply announcing names, the filmmakers introduced each actor alongside a brief description of their character, hinting at the emotional complexity awaiting audiences. From “The Strategist” and “The Ambitious One” to “The Truth Seeker” and “The Protective Mother”, the reveals suggest the film will lean heavily into the intricate relationships, hidden rivalries and emotional tension that made the original novel an international success.
The screenplay is particularly noteworthy because Lola Shoneyin herself worked alongside Adze Ugah and Heidi Uys to adapt the novel, raising expectations that the film will remain faithful to the wit, social commentary and layered storytelling readers have admired for years.
Production has already wrapped, with cast members recently completing Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR) sessions ahead of the film’s post-production phase.

A Major Milestone for Nollywood’s Cinema Ambitions
The film represents more than another literary adaptation. It also marks EbonyLife Films’ return to theatrical releases after several years of focusing primarily on streaming productions.
Even more significant is the collaboration behind the project. EbonyLife Group, Genesis Pictures, Nile Entertainment and Silverbird Distribution have partnered to ensure the film receives one of Nollywood’s biggest cinema rollouts, with international distribution also planned in selected markets, including the United Kingdom.
For many fans, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives has long been regarded as one of the Nigerian novels most deserving of a major screen adaptation. With an acclaimed director, an award-winning production team, and an all-star cast now fully revealed, expectations for the December release have climbed even higher.
Whether audiences are discovering Baba Segi’s complicated household for the first time or returning to a familiar story from the pages of the novel, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives is already shaping up to be one of Nollywood’s biggest cinematic events of the year.
