Abimbola Omowunmi Appointed as Director-General, CIIN
Abimbola Omowunmi has been appointed the Director General (DG) of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, (CIIN) following the retirement of Mr Richard Borokini, former Director-General who served for four years. Prior to her appointment, Abimbola Omowunmi served as the Director of Examinations, Chartered Insurance Institute.
Omowunmi holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, from Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University, and a master’s degree in Actuarial Science from the prestigious University of Ibadan, Oyo state. Her passion for insurance informed another Master of Science in Risk Management and Insurance from the University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State in 2019. She is an associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria and later became a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria. Omowunmi also boosted her skills and expertise with training and seminars attended in different parts of Nigeria.

Omowunmi’s experience spans over 20 years in the insurance sector. She started her career in 1999 and worked as a Superintendent, Great Nigeria Insurance Plc. As a Superintendent, Omowunmi gained experience in underwriting, both Life/Pensions and General Business Insurance. She later moved to Cornerstone Insurance Plc as Group Head overseeing the Life and Actuarial units. The knowledge acquired overtime in the insurance sector led her to be the Director of Examinations, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria in 2018.
Omowunmi is currently a member of the Professional Insurance Ladies Association (PILA). She has served as an integral part of various committees of the Life office at the Nigeria Insurers Association where she was the Assistant General Secretary. She was also a faculty member at the College of insurance, Asese, Ogun state and a certified International Labour Organization (ILO) Micro-Insurance Trainer.
Omowunmi is purpose-driven, self-inspired and a professional. She is highly passionate about giving back and this has led her to facilitate different qualitative training and seminars within the insurance space and beyond. On her new role as the Director-General, Omowunmi will oversee the administration of the institute and propose policies that will benefit both members and workers.
