Access Bank Plc Appoints Hassan Usman as Independent Non-Executive Director

The founder of New Frontier Development Limited, Hassan Usman has been appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director, Access Bank Plc shortly after the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The Chairman of Access Bank Plc, Dr Ajoritsedere Awosika is convinced that Hassan Usman’s background will be significant to the development of the bank and to the needs of the board.

Speaking on his appointment, Dr. Ajoritsedere Awosika said,

“We are very delighted to be joined by Mr Hassan Usman, a leader with a rich blend of academic, entrepreneurial and public sector experiences, which are all relevant to the needs of our board. As we embark on the next phase of our enterprise transformation, we continue to strengthen the diversity of our board. We are strongly convinced that he will no doubt add significant value in our quest to become Africa’s gateway to the world.”

Hassan’s background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Sussex, England and a Master of Philosophy in Development Economics from the University of Cambridge. He is an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales, a Registered US National Association of Securities Dealers Series 7 Investment Banking Representative, an Eisenhower fellow and an Archbishop Desmond Tutu fellow of the African Leadership Institute.

Hassan’s career spans over 20 years in finance and investment advisory as well as privatization services across various sectors. He is the founder of New Frontier Development Limited, a propriety investment company based in Abuja. The company which began operations in 2016 was founded upon Usman’s passion for economic transformation and development in Nigeria. New Frontier Development is focused on identifying opportunities for startups, providing innovative solutions, and enabling responsible investment. The company also focuses on financial advisory, hospitality and real estate investments.

Prior to this role, Hassan Usman’s experience includes serving as the managing director of Aso Savings and Loans Plc, Executive Director, Abuja Investment and Property Development Company Limited and as Chairman, Prestige Assurance Plc in 2015. Hassan worked as the head of the structured and cross-border finance team, Citibank Nigeria and within the financial markets Division of Arthur Andersen S.C. London. He has served as a board member of major corporations like NITEL, Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority(NSIA) and Nigerian Mortgage Refinance Company(NMRC).

Hassan’s interest in education led to the founding of AL-Qalam (pen) foundation, a non-profit organization where he is Chairman of the Board of Trustees. This organization is concerned with uplifting less privileged children by providing educational opportunities for them.

As the newly appointed independent non-executive director, Access Plc, Usman will be actively involved in strengthening the diversity of the board. He will also serve as an integral part of the development of new policies that will positively impact the bank and develop it to fulfil its quest of becoming Africa’s gateway to the world.
